COP LECTURE 6 - Print Culture & Distribution PART 2

The late age of print/ the digital age

Return in the 20th century to older methods of hand made production.
Things such as letter press and print are being taught again, no longer just digital print.
Print festivals celebrate traditional print.

Despite digital print being easier and more efficient people are still interested in handmade print.
In a world of instant results to any question or solving problems at the click of a button on your phone, it is refreshing to see people go back to traditional methods.

The slow movement
Avoid rushing, opposes trying to cram loads into your day and instead favours doing less things but to a higher quality. Changing the logic of our society.
> Slow food, rebellion against what fast food stands for 'tedious/ the same' believe food should go back to being locally sourced and hand made.
> Slow fashion, against fast fashion of shops that all sell similar things, we don't create our own style. We style the clothes we buy with help from the shop's mannequins. Slow fashion focuses on independent shops that locally source or recycle material.
> Slow design: Individual + Environment + Socio Cultural = Slow design
Handmade production is vital, has a polotics to it.

The print project:
Reclaim old industrial print presses and put them to use again. An educational project, setting up workshops so people can learn these processes.
> Exploring the way old mediums can produce things that look digital.
> Slowing down and resisting against the logic of the world.
